cloth diapering

Since Ben and I are going to cloth diaper I've been looking into brands for the last few months.
I always come back to FuzziBunz...
except recently they changed their products a bit. I was about to get upset (I had already bookmarked the diapers I wanted) then I came across these:
http://www.fuzzibunzworld.com/onesifubu.html

Once size diapers...for birth to potty training. 24 diapers will be about $450. But that's a one time fee. We'd need a few other things, like the diaper totes for the dirty diapers. And the toilet sprayer. But last time I looked the prices were about $600 for the diapers.

We've got another month until we find out the sex.
And I have no idea when I should give out the registry.
Our Babies R Us registry
Just in case anyone wants to look through.
We're staying pretty bare bones. we plan to pick out our own clothing, and maybe only add a bouncy swing or something.

a much cheaper way to do it is to buy a few diaper covers (like an imse vimse brand or bummies) and use pre fold diapers and get a diaper service to clean them (or you can wash them yourself if you really want to, but it's super hard to do it yourself those first few months, take it from me!). you still have to wash the diaper covers, but the prefolds are delivered weekly and you don't have to buy them. we used "changing habits diaper service" and they were a great service, very affordable. in fact, we added up how much we spent extra on water/electric bill from washing them and the diaper service was actually cheaper.
hope this helps.
good luck!

also, don't bother with the diaper sprayer, they're useless; especially if you're breast feeding because the poo is super slimy and watery at first. get a paint scraper instead (i know, it's gross, but you get used to it :-).

that's just silly
a diapering service is going to cost me more then 2 packs of pre folds.

Besides...why use a diapering service when I like the diapers we're looking at. I don't have to worry about them not fitting, and I don't have to buy "soakers" to go over them
An AIO makes much more sense.
And the water/ electric bill is negligible for the extra laundry.

I've had several friends use a diaper sprayer. The babies poop will become more solid after the first few months.

Diaper services are a waste when you can have all the stuff at home for less.

i was just offering advice based on my own experience with cloth diapering. we cloth diapered until my toddler was 18 mos, and tried several different options.
wasn't really telling you what you should do. sorry if i offended you.

whatever you do, it's awesome that you're using cloth, it really is the best way to go.
cheers.

I don't know who you are.
You come into my blog and tell me what is cheaper without really asking for my cost analysis.

It's not super hard to wash diapers. I've had several friends do it.
You tell me things are useless just because you didn't use them.

fine...
but I don't know who you are and didn't really ask for what you thought was best for ME

i'm the moderator of the stitchin' bitchin' mamas group on ravelry. again, i was just offering my own experience. i saw your blog (and your great knits) and when i read about you using cloth diapers i got really excited...i always like to offer people my experience with them. sorry if it came off like i was being pushy.

you know what's best for you and your baby and your family...that was something i constantly had to tell myself when i was pregnant, and even after the baby was born. unsolicited advice from strangers just comes with the territory, but you never have to take any of it.

much luck to you.

Had you told me where you came from I would have been a little more receptive.
I also wish you had asked me for more info.

I'm sure you understand how stressful it is trying to get things together.
I don't mind discussing clothing diapering, I just felt like the comment was more of a "this is a better way"
we're happy with what we decided and it saves us a ton of money each month.

I also prefer not to use a diaper service so I can be in control of everything.

I apologize, didn't mean to be bitchy. I'm just stressed.

i totally understand. the most annoying thing people said to me when i was pregnant, was "if you think you're stressed now, just wait until the baby is born"...grrr, i just wanted to punch those people right in the face. i don't think i've ever been as stressed as i was when i was pregnant. even now, with a toddler and all his tantrums. :-)

I had someone say "it's too early to start thinking about baby stuff"

I wanted to smack her around.
This was right after an LJ entry saying how overwhelmed I was...and that I'd feel better when we started to get stuff off the registry.

some people say things without really thinking.
